    Eastwood's Black Oxide & Tin-Zinc Plating Kits

Has anyone use the black oxide and/or tin-zinc plating kits from Eastwood?
Do they give an acceptable look? Is there another, better product?

I've use the black oxide. Works very well. Easy to use and very good finish.

I've used Caswell's Black Oxide kit. Worked well and was cheaper than Eastwoods.

Roger: Black Oxide or Black Phosphate?

        Roger,

What parts are you plating that were black oxide? You're not confusing black oxide with black phosphate, are you? Black phosphate was used on a number of bolts and nuts and black phosphate has a certain sparkle or glisten to the finish that can be seen when the light hits the plated part at a certain angle. I've been looking unsuccessfully for a black phosphate plater in my area for quite some time. It seems like black phosphate has been abandoned by many platers. Black oxide is by no means a perfect substitution for black phosphate.

Do you know of a plater who does black phosphate?

I've had very good luck with the eastwoods Black Oxide kit and will be triing the zinc plating kit tonight for the first time. I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes on my spare tire carrier bolts.

            Hi Roger -
I've used the Eastwood tin-zinc kit successfully for braces, caps, nuts, bolts, linkages, cables, etc. Results have been good. Three practices to follow - thoroughly clean each part, don't over-plate, and don't over-buff when you're done. Take your time and I think you'll be pleased.
