Hello, I have a 72 and Right now I have stock mufflers (not originals) that are too quiet. I was going to get chambered exhaust but decided not yet. I think that car should make some noise. It has a stock ls5 454,400 auto trans, stock high perf exhaust manifolds. I have a set of hooker turbo mufflers lying around (they are about 4 inches shorter than the mufflers on there now.) and I was think of installing those or glass pack mufflers(They would be the same length as the stock mufflers that are on there now.) Which do you think would sound better? Do you think the glass packs would be to loud? I just would like to hear the radio while the car is idling. Thanks Eric

Re: Glasspacks or turbo mufflers?
I had some nice sounding glasspacks on my 64 4-speed back in 69. Really liked the sound. Put glasspacks on my 70 auto and the sound was OK, not the same sound as with my 64 4-speed though, then I went with the 69 Corvette side exhaust. Not the glasspack tone, but when the inside of the mufflers became more of an expansion chamber with the insides deteriorated and blown out of the muffler, my neighbors knew when I started my car in the morning.- Top

Re: Glasspacks or turbo mufflers?
I had a '63 4 speed with glass packs and loved the sound. Interior noise was not an issue with the pipes exiting out the rear. I also liked the way the car looked from the rear as the glass packs were smaller and tucked up closer to the car. I have stock looking torbo mufflers on my '64 now. It sounds good but not as good as the glass packs, in my opinion.- Top
