    C1, '58 Trunk Liner

Was the trunk liner painted as installed when the trunk space was painted or was it painted seperately? I have seen some cars with the clutch head screws painted and others not, which raises the question.

Terry, I do not believe the liner was in place during body paint.

No, the liner was not in place when the car was painted - it was installed later on the trim line; the steel brackets it attaches to will show paint, but the liner and screws will not.

Terry... As an additional thought. This is why, when you try to visit the "trim tag" of the C1 58/60 cars, you have to remove the paint from behind the trunk panel to find out what the original body color was. This is pretty conclusive evidence that the panel was elsewhere during body paint application.

I have read that and wasn't sure if the writer was refering to the primer or color coat. In my hulk's situation, there was the faint remains of the crayon under the dark gray primer but all of the color (red) had been sandblasted off. Yes, I said Sand Blasted. And we ain't talking sugar. We're talking beach sand - in every conceivable nook and cranny. I must have gotten 40 lbs from inside the frame alone. On the bright side, the body was busted-up so bad you wouldn't notice the #36 grit finish on the "glass. Ahh, the joy of restoration.
