    68 tire size recommendations

What's the largest size tire that can fit on a Rallye wheel (8") and not have any interference problems on a 68?

I read in a restorers book (Newton) that 255/60 - 15" is the largest.

    Thanks for any help,

    Rich

Rich, I've got BF Goodrich Radial T/A P255SR60/15 tires on my big block 68. They fit fine.

      Richard,

There has been a lot of discussion on this subject and I have taken note of the many responses since I have a 69 under resto that I have never had on the street and will be putting on the road soon. For 68 and 69's the consensus has been that either 255's or 245's (15's) will work on these two model years. However people have noted that 255's can rub a decent amount and are more geared towards later 70's c3 with larger fender/quarter flares. 245's seem to be the largest without any problems for 68 and 69. This is the size I will be putting on my 69 also.

        Re: 68 tire size recommendations

        Thanks Guys.

        I'm using 8" rallys (original GM's, 69 onward) and not the 7" 68's.

They have different offsets (69 vs. 69+).

What wheels did you guys use, and does is make a difference?

        Regards,

        Rich

Sorry, forgot to ask this ques.:

What tire pressure do you guys run in your tires?

Book says 24 psi all around, but with the newer radials and all, does that still apply?

          Thanks again,

          Rich

Normal operating tire pressures are determined/published by the vehicle manufacturer based on the vehicle application, which is why you'll never see anything except a "maximum recommended" pressure molded into a tire. 32 psi is probably a good starting point for radials, then monitor tire wear patterns for adjustments.

i think most of the responses dealt with the 8 inch rally rims, for 145 and 255 tire sizes

Richard, I can confirm that I have K-H 8" Rally wheels on my 68, although they are not original Corvette wheels. I hope this helps.

Thanks Guys, I figured most would be on the 8" as 7" rims are hard to find.

I read somewhere that Camaro 7" rallys are much cheaper.
