    1. How should the weight on the exhaust heat riser valve be positioned? Should the weight point to the front or toward the outside(toward the fender well) on a 1966 350 horsepower 327?

    2. Did the 1966 350 h.p. 327 use gaskets between the cylinder and exhaust manifolds?

The axis is in line with crankshaft - weight to the rear - but I guess you could say the weight points to inner fender on the outer side. That's the nice thing about an F.I. car - none of these complicated issues - other than trying to start the car.

To check the surface for flatness, I've used a 36 grit body-type sandpaper on a flat board. If the surfaces come out nice and clean in the first few passes, I follow up with an 80 grit. If the surfaces sand on only a portion of their edges, I take them to a machine shop for grinding. Most of mine have turned out nicely with just the sandpaper treatment.
