C2 Hood Hinge & Support Finish

I need to refinish the hood hinges and support rod on my 66 coupe. My plan was to sand blast the rust, etc. prime and paint with some sort of silver/grey semi-gloss paint. Any suggestions? What would be acceptable? If paint is the way to go, suggest brand and type.

As always, thanks for your input.

    Steve -

The C2 hood hinges were oversprayed with engine compartment blackout paint, and the hood support was zinc-plated, installed after blackout.

Thanks for the response. Are you, therefore telling me that it would not be appropriate to paint these items? If so, what would be acceptable restoration methods? Would I sand blat the hinges , reinstall thwem and then hit them with some blackout? Can the hood support be replated?

        Steve,

------If you look closely at your hinges you will see that there is a special washer that in effect makes the hinge tight. After use the washer tends to flatten and then the hinges become looser. The hood tends to rattle a bit under these circumstances. You can see it at speed as the wind starts moving things around. There isnt any cost effective way of fixing this other than replacing the hinges with new ones. They are readily available, cheap and are one of those things that come under the heading of "always replace" as far as I am concerned!...........Bill S

          Steve -

I'd hit the hinges with some Krylon #1613 Semi-Flat Black (or John Deere "Blitz Black"), either of which is a pretty good match for the factory underhood blackout. Re-plating the hood support probably isn't cost-effective; if you can't get the paint off it (it was originally zinc-plated), accurate reproductions (with the Atwood logo) aren't that expensive.
