    1970 Front Ball Joints

Hi - Do the rubber boots, that retain grease for the ball joints, on a 70 go on the ball joint and then assembled through the a-frame or do they slide on the ball joint stud after installation of the ball joint?

Also the sway bar bushings are much taller than the retaining bracket. I was told that is normal because GM used a press to compress them into the retainer. Will the bushings compress satisfactorly when I tight the bolts attaching the bushing retainers?

    Thanks

The ball joint seals are installed on the ball stud after installation of the ball joint in the a-arm. This is only true for aftermarket-type ball joints. For the original type ball joints, the seals (boots) are retained to the joiunt by a metal band and are, consequently, an integral part of the ball joint assembly.

The sway bar bushings will compress around the bar and into the retainers assuming that you have the correct bushings.
