I have a 61 VIN #4587 which has a January 10, 1960 build date. I am restoring my hardtop and the exact original date of the plexiglass is unknown but in any event it would be glass made in the last quarter of 1960, most likely October(10) or November(11). The judging guide says "early 61 cars with hardtop windows dated calender year 1960 have no zero in the year code (example: "10-6" indicates October 1960). From that I would say that if I wanted a November 1960 date on my glass I should specify 11-6. People more knowledgeable than I think it should be 11-60. Is the JG wrong??? Has there been some updated information discovered since the JG was printed in the summer of 2000(fifth edition???? I just want to be sure that it is correct on the judging field as hardtop restorations are cumbersome and expensive and one restoration is enough.

Re: 61 hardtop window date codes/correction
The car was built on January 10, 1961, not January 10, 1960. Sorry for the confusion.- Top

Re: 61 hardtop window date codes/correction
Dave... My advice would be to opt for the 2 number year date code. That is what I have observed in original Plexiglass panels of this era. Dennis- Top

Re: 61 hardtop window date codes/correction
Dennis,
Thanks for the help. I almost made a real expensive mistake. I assume the judging guide will get this revision in due time. The folks at Glassworks are aware of this, and as they make a large percentage of the hardtop plexiglass, they hopefully will catch anyone trying to follow the JG and correct it.- Top
