I am currently rebuilding a Holley Carb 4160. Before I dip it the manual states I need to file down the butterfly bolt and that I will need to restake it when it is done. My first question: Is this being done because there is a bushing inside the stake that will be dissolved when I dip it or is it being done to do a better job of cleaning. If so then what is involved in restaking it? Is there a special tool? Is it done by Hammer? This question also applies ti th two stakes in the throttle body as well?

    Please advise.

There is no bushing in the base plate unles it was rebuild previous and somebody installed one to fix a sloppy shaft condition. Some of the shafts have a coating to aid wear but I dont recall which models have it and which don't. In either case most carb solvent cleaners do not harm this coating. If you do remove the staked screws be sure to restake after reassembly to prevent your motor from injesting one.
