I will be replacing the shocks soon on my '56. Since I do not show the car, is there a current shock that would be advisable? I do see NOS shocks for sale once in a while but since I drive it every nice day, I want the best shock available and I know for a fact that shocks have gotten better since the '56 NOS ones were produced! Thanks in advance.

Re: C1 Shock Recommendations
I didn't buy the best available but I used delco on the front and Monroe Gas-Matics 5818's on the rear and during a road trip yesterday I was very pleased. I bought the Monroe's at Advance Auto. The delco's came from an internet place called the shockshop.com. Don't know anything about the company, the delco's were just cheaper there.

I was part of that big discussion...
And I wish I could say I have had the time to install the shocks I bought. HOWEVER, after much heartburn I was able to find out the AC Delco gas shock part numbers for my car (and your 56). Rear ACD 520-297 or GM 88946142. Front ACD 520-284 or GM 88946129. I think 58 and later use a different rear shock, which was also still listed. A decent shock and the satisfaction of "genuine Delco", plus my local Chevy dealer sold them to me for about $75, much less than the $120+ the Corvette vendors will charge.- Top
