The ball on the ball bracket to the frame is out of round after 41 years of service. I bought a repo ball and bracket. Is cutting the original bracket off the frame and welding the repo on the frame the only way to correct this problem or is there an easier way? Thanks in advance.

Re: 1962 Clutch ball bracket on the frame
Phil... Give some thought to this. With the engine out - with oxy-acet gas, simply build up the existing pivot ball in those areas it is worn, grind as appropriate, grease and place back into service. Will probably last longer than you and I put together...The other option is to replace only the ball pivot stud and tack weld into place. Or, as you mention, do the whole thing. I would rate them 1, 2, 3, in order... Best, Dennis- Top

Phil,
Remove the sheet metal from under the bracket, grind the backside (outboard) of the stud off. The stud will then push out of the bracket (towards the engine). Insert the new stud and weld from the outboard side. Just did it on my 62.
Good Luck,
