    C3 Headlamp Switch problem

    Hi Guys,
I've just placed a replacement switch next to the original, and in the area marked "7" (on the side, pressed into the bakelite) there is no contact. Also, there is a ground contact on the bottom of the replaqcement switch that doesn't exist on the original. Anyone familiar with this? This is the replacement, so...
Does anyone have a schematic of the switch? I'm flying blind. I'd replace the electrical side of the new switch with the old, but the new has an additional ground contact.
    Thanx

I can tell you this much: the headlight switch for 1968-75 Corvettes changed over the years. Originally, it was GM #1995166. In June, 1975, the GM #1995166 switch was discontinued for PRODUCTION and SERVICE and replaced by GN #1995191. The latter switch has been the only SERVICE switch for 1968-75 models available in SERVICE ever since then and thousands of 68-75 Corvette owners have used them to successfully SERVICE their cars. I strongly suspect that the change was made to remedy a dimmer circuit problem for which the original switches are notorious. In fact, that may also closely relate to the elimination of the #7 terminal. Improvements to the internal configuration of the switch likely rendered it unnecessary.

Also, I can tell you this too: I have an original GM #1995166 switch in my collection [NOT for sale]. If I were to need to replace my switch would I use it? Not a chance. I'd use one of my 1995191's [also not for sale] without the #7 terminal. I think this is a better switch. Might as well take advantage of improvements which occur over the years, especially for a component that absolutely can't be seen.
