At the moment, without my references at hand, about all I could offer is that I believe that this is probably a Chevrolet 283 cid engine head circe 1958. It was not used in Corvettes, but probably was used on Chevrolet passenger cars and/or light trucks. It should have the "staggered" valve cover bolt holes used from 1955 thru mid-1959.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

Well, I was pretty close. Casting number 3748772 was a low-performance 283 cylinder head used between 1958 and 1961 on passenger cars and light trucks.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
