Oil pan/ follow-up question for Joe L.

I had previously asked about an oil pan with the baffle that bolts to the mains and Joe L. was nice enough to supply me with the part numbers #360450-pan and #3927136-baffle. While at a swap meet I cam across a pan that looked like what I expect this pan to look like (deeper in the front then a passanger car pan) but it had the baffle connected to the pan. The question is, does the #360450 have the bigger front and what would the pan with the larger front and intergrated baffle be from?

The GM #360450 has a deeper (and shorter) sump than the original 63-74 Corvette small block pans. However, I don't know what you mean by "deeper in the front".

Baically, the 360450 is externally the same as many 75-79 small block passenger car pans. The difference is the internal baffling. The key point to look for in a 360450 is the sheet metal "rails" that are welded to the inner surface on both sides of the pan. These rails are about 12" long and are about 2-1/2" below the oil pan gasket surface. The extend from about mid-sump forward. These "rails" interlock with the external baffle. Only the 360450 has these "rails".

Thanks for the response. Your discription is exactly the same as the machine shop explained, except they did not know the part #. I get my parts through my brother-in-law who works for GM. I recieve exceptional discounts, but they will not accept returns so I must be possitive of the part # or I get stuck with useless parts. Thanks for all your help in supplying the #'s and also confirming that this is what I am looking for.

GM #360450 is the correct current number for the pan. The old part number was GM #465220. However, GM #465220 was NOT the part number for an oil pan----it was the part number for an oil pan KIT. The kit included 1 GM #360450 oil pan + 1 GM #14079399 oil pan gasket set. A few years ago, GM discontinued the 465220 oil pan KIT and replaced it with just the 360450 oil pan in a box by itself. It's just as well, too. The only way to go is to use the Fel-Pro OS-34510-T one piece gasket with this pan. Now, you don't have to purchase the GM gasket set with the pan and have a surplus gasket set lying around.
