    C-1 Interior Paint

    1. I am starting to work under the dash of my '61 and have removed the underdash blower motor. I plan to clean everything up, replace the hoses, control valve, gaskets, and heater core. My question is what paint to use on painted parts? The JG indicates that the blower motor should be "dull black".

What is the best paint to use?

    2. What would be the best paint to use for the interior finish paint? Should I head to an auto body supplier or are the aerosol interior dye paints satisfactory?

    Thanks for the help!

    Re: C-1 Interior Paint

I would use a semi gloss or semi flat on the heater. I doubt anyone can precisely quantify exactly the degree of gloss. An auto paint supplier likely can't help you with paint if you want to use the original style lacquer. The finish is supposed to be "unbuffed gloss lacquer". A flattening agent can be added to enamels or urethanes to simulate this appearance, but exactly how much flattener is somewhat subjective. I have seen figures of 5-10% published, but have no personal experience. I intend to do my 62 dash in base clear sometime soon and will probably add 5% flattening agent to the clear and see what happens.
The spray cans will do an adequate job if used properly. I would recommend you get two cans in case something doesn't go right the first time. Be sure to get any traces of old enamel off the panels and use lacquer primer.
