I am removing sidepipes from my 67 Corvette and putting the correct undercar exhaust on the car. This means that I must put the correct rocker moldings back on the car. I noticed that I need brackets that weld to the frame so the the bottom of the rocker moldings can attach to the brackets. I found and ordered these brackets from Paragon. They are natural in color. Question: For NCRS judging, should I paint the brackets black after welding them on to the frame? Any other advice about welding these brackets back on?
Steve: Those brackets don't weld to the frame, they are welded to the birdcage under the rocker channel. They were therefore primed with zinc chromate with the rest of the birdcage and were present during body painting as well. (also, take a good look under there - if you're lucky maybe the last guy just bent the originals out of the way.)
You will also have to perform body work on the front quarter panels behind the front wheels whrere the pipes curve out from under the car, the original panels were cut to clear the pipes. LI Corvette sells black match molded repair parts to fix this area....Craig
Also may have been trimmed in the back where the tips curve out just forward of the rear wheels, but this area will clear without cutting...so you may be lucky there...Craig
