    Vintage Racer Help

The ever changing rules in SVRA vintage racing now require that I install a regular production passenger seat in my 64 Corvette racecar. I also have the option not to install the seat and take the equivalent weight penalty. My question is ...Does anyone know what a 63/64 seat weights? I'd appreciate your help. Jerry

A triple disc mini clutch, aftermarket (lightweight) rotating assy, rockershafts, cut apart (modified and rewelded)intake manifolds,15deg heads, dry sump oiling and on and on and on are all "OK" but you "need" a production seat????? how stupid is that!!! looks like those squeeky wheel(s) got greased.

PS: how much will it cost you to add "functioning headlights" ???

            Re: Vintage Racer Help

It gets even funnier when you realize why groups like SVRA started. They started because there were too many arbitrary rules in SCCA and the rules changed too often. So vintage racing was a chance to return to the "old days" when racing was "fun" and less rules.

I almost ran with one of these groups once long ago at Tamiami Park when they somehow got an SCCA sanction to run at the Indy Car races. The problem was twofold. My car was a real race car, with SCCA racing from 1970 to then. I also had a real SCCA license, not a vintage license. As such, I was deemed a hazzard and not allowed to run. Which was just as well. During their 13/13 and 7/10ths vintage racing, they smashed about 10 cars that day. In my several years of racing, I have never hit anyone and only been hit once.

You know, if you take a fiberglass mold of a seat, and buy a used seat cover, you would have a seat that looks like stock and weigh about five pounds. Just don't let anyone ride in it.

You could also cut one out of styrofoam and use a seat cover over it.

I can't believe that vintage racing is worried about "weight penalties" and such. Didn't anyone tell these guys the championships with these cars were fought, won, or lost nearly forty years ago?

What happened to vintage racing being "fun" and "laid back like the old days"?
