    Car Lifts

    Hi,

    Thanks,

    Re: Car Lifts

They called me last week to advise that mine is ready for shipping. I asked them to hold it another 2 weeks or so. To me it looked like the most stable lift out there. Will adv. in a couple of weeks.

      Brian,

Thanks. I am going to a major car show next week and I understand they will be there. I want to take a good look at there lift. I would like to add one to my collection this summer.

Anohter one that is the same design is Aut0lifters, Backyard Buddy copied thier lift. I have two, and am very satisfied. Sometimes they have specials with free shipping, but even without, the rate is reasonable. They will send you a free video if you call....I have one M6 and one M80, the M80 is longer and has wider tracks plus ball bearing rollers on the cabling....Craig

I forgot to mention, they have dropped their prices recently, and they are 100% domemestically manufactured, not all are...Craig

It would be nice to lift a car and leave it in the air the park another car underneath it. Is that possible to store a car that way? I have seen auto shops do that. Would it hurt the lift? Thanks Eric

I forgot to specify which lift i was talking about. It was the 2 post lift that i was thinking of getting so i could work on the car. The 4 post looks best for storing but not for working on the car.

I have two M6's from the same manufacture as Craig mentioned. Have had them for about 7 years now with no problems. Main reason for purchasing the M6 was that it was made and sold by the company that manufactured it.
If you buy one, I recommend picking it up at your local shipping carrier with a flatbed trailor. These lifts are very heavy as packaged for shipping.
Mine was delivered to the house and I disassembled the unit in the transport truck and moved the pieces into the garage. The ramps are the heaviest pieces and the delivery driver helped some with a monetary award. His delivery truck did not have a lift on the back. I guess he thought I had a loading dock at the house or a forklift.
Anyway, I assembled them myself using only my floorjack for assistance, so it can be done.

I also have the Autolifter's M6 4-post lift and am very happy with it. a couple of weeks ago I had the garage door tracks raised so i can install a second M6. I use primary for storage, but they are a the greatest when it's time for repair or maintance on one of my cars. I would recommend that you contact Autolifters.

Eric You can do lots of work on a four post lift . The two or four post each have their advantages and it would be nice to have both. With the four post their is no bolting down and can be moved out side or in the shop . Check all the lifts out as some are built better and look more finished than others.

                      Eric,

John Hinckley and I each have the Double Park unit; actually I have two. See the pictures below.

I've got the front suspension out of the Cutlass right now (see picture), and with the caster units actually rolled it outside to wash the bottom of the car. I found the Double Park to be the best finished I've ever seen. In addition, when delivered, it is unloaded for you right onto your shop floor.

I just found out you can store a car on a 2 post lift with no problems with the lift but would it hurt the car if it was on the lift all winter with the wheels hanging down since it is supported in the middle of the car?

                          Dennis,

I am also in the process of building a shop, which should be ready by June. I am going to use the Autolifters two post with the 8,000 lb. capacity. I like the idea that I will be able to do tire rotation, brake and suspension work plus I think that I can bodies off the frame of some cars. Both lifts have pros and cons. Just think of your primary use for the lift. One is for storage the other is for mechanical work. Some will agure that you can do tire rotation with the four post but that involves jacking the car again.

                            Re: Car Lifts

I actually bought a pair of NORCO rolling air/hydraulic lift bridges, one for the front and one for the rear of the car. These roll down the ramps, and also have adjustments in and out laterally plus screw adjustments vertically with pads. They cost as much as the whole lift, but, give you total freedom to lift the car off the ramps without messing around with jacks and jack trays. It gives you near the versatility of a two post, other than the access restriction the ramp itself causes. Lately, competition has been helpful driving the costs down as well, my original M6 was $2795 plus shipping, I think they are down to $2295 right now. I opted for the 220V 3HP motor pump, (no extra charge from Autolifters). I noticed mine lifts the car substantially faster than the 110V units I have seen in demos at BG and Carlisle. You can see the rolling lift bridges at the Norco website below, it is their 79324C product, select products, then scroll down to "rolling lift bridge" Mine are the B versus C suffix, not sure what changed.
You order the flat mounting brackets (79326) with the offset to match your lift, so the bridge rides at the right height.

I would not store a car on a two post lift . On a four post lift I use two small hydraulic scissor jacks under the frame when I do tire and brake work on corvettes and as a bonus you have a nice place to put your tools on the deck of a four post lift. The installation of a two post lift may require concrete work also.
