Im looking at a 1967 conv. that appears to be a numbers correct car. The current owner has what appears to be a build sheet/order sheet. There is nothing I can see that ties the form to the car other than options the car has plus the correct color and trim. There is an order number and a date. The date on this form precedes the actual build date of the car by about 3weeks. Does this sound right to you guys in the know ?? Thanks, Mike Chase

Re: 1967 Build Sheet order Date
Mike - this sounds about right, my 67 has a 4-10 date on the build sheet, and the body build date is 4/29 (A.O. Smith body car) and the seral number puts the car build at 5/11/67. The body number (which you see on the build sheet) is also frequently in crayon on the car body itself, mine has it on the passender footwell area on the underside below the Air Conditioning evaporator area. You should also be able to check ECL codes on the trim tag to match up with the tank sticker options, if it is a St Louis body, A.O.Smith bodies didn't use the ECL's on the trim tags if I recall correctly...Craig- Top

Re: 1967 Build Sheet order Date
Just took a look at my original owner 70's order sheet. In the date received it has 70/06/12. My car was is a July built car according the the attached metal tag on the drivers door. This order sheet matches what was on my original window sticker that I saved. I found my order sheet behind the radio in my 70. The serial number of the car is not on my order sheet, although there is a ident no. 387016.- Top

Re: 1967 Build Sheet order Date
vin #s don't appear on 67 tank stickers. from what you describe, sounds like the car may be an untampered entity. Look closely at broach marks, they are much harder to replicate than tank stickers, crayon markings on floorpans etc. good luck mike- Top

Re: 1967 Build Sheet order Date
Mike
When I was researching my 67 big block , NCRS member Al Grenning gave me his expertise in deciphering my tank sticker. There is no VIN number on the order sheet itself, but you should see either a two or three digit number, sometimes circled in pencil somewhere near the upper right. As Al explained to me this hand written number was used to synchronize the body line and the chassis line. These numbers were used in groups of 500 and were closely associated with the last three digits of the VIN. If your VIN is XX345 you could see a handwritten number of 045 to 545 on the tank sheet. Al went on to say that his research into this showed that in 1967 the gap between this sync number and the actual VIN often varied a significant amount. Most of the time however this number fell within five digits of the actual last three digits of the VIN#. If this is the case in the example you give,it sound like a valid document. Good luck!- Top

Re: 1967 Build Sheet order Date
Al is a wealth of knowlege on this area....he has mountains of documentation. He has great classes on this in Bloomington. In my case, he also verifed the stamp pad, transmission stamping, and build sheet. FYI, My body build sequence number was 254 on the tank sticker and on the passenger footwell, and my VIN is 18255. So it bears out your comments he made, one digit away. However, as he states, this does vary a lot, so nobody should assume they have a problem if it is off a ways....Craig- Top
