Well I took it off to clean and paint the engine compartment and I cant get it back on. WHich hole in the front of the engine does the upper and lower alternator arms bolt into? There are three holes on the front drivers side. The other question I have deals with the bracket that the long bolt goes through that allows the alternator to swivel. Does it attach to the engine or does it just sit free? Any photos of the position of this bracket and the mounting hole for the two arms would be great. Sorry to be a pain. Ive been taking notes as I take things off but some things get frustrating. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Help- C3 Alternator problem
I have some pictures that I took for you but I can't figure out how to put them on here. If you send me your email I can send you some pictures. The bracket bolts to the front of the block with the outboard side curling up to support the alternator from underneath. The long bolt goes through the end of the bracker and the alternator only. The support goes to the top left (drivers) side of your waterpump. Of all the books I have bought for this car my assembly manual was the most valuable.

Re: Help- C3 Alternator problem
Don,
"Assuming" your 70 is like a 71...
They should mount onto the hole on the front of the driver's exhaust manifold as well as on the upper left (driver's) water pump bolt.
In this photo, you can see them attaching to the water pump:
At that water pump location, the one that goes to the TOP of the alternator actually mounts forward of the one that attaches to the bottom of the alternator. That is shown quite well in the picture.
Here's a picture from the driver's side:
