'68 QTR panel trim retainer

I'm asking about the "strips" in the door jams that help anchor the interior Qtr trim panels.

I believe that these retainers were 2 pieces on each side of the car. Four pieces total and that the uppers were different between coupes and convertibles. I cannot find in the AIM any reference to part numbers for this part on a convertible but I suspect that I may be missing a page.

Is there a difference between the coupe and convertible upper retainers?

Yes, there is a difference for the upper trim panel retainers between coupe and convertible.

The uppers for the convertible are GM #3930913, lh, and GM #3930914, rh.

The uppers for the coupe are GM #3930915, lh, and GM #3930916, rh.

The lowers for both coupe and convertible are GM #3930917, lh, and GM #3930918, rh.

I can tell you they are different on 73's so it may be for 68's also and the convertible ones are hard to find at swap meets. Left and right hand are also different .

Joe,

I hate to beat a dead horse. I am in the process of purchasing the lower retainers via eBay. The seller may have the uppers as well but the part numbers he is relaying don't jive. Does part number 3976310 mean anything to you?

Yes, it does. GM #3976309 and GM #3976310 were the left and right upper retainers used in PRODUCTION for 1970 through 1975 CONVERTIBLES. They became the SERVICE replacement retainers for 68 and 69 models when the part numbers that I previously provided were discontinued from SERVICE in January, 1970.
