    C3 OIL IN CARPET

I am finding a clean, gold colored oil substance in my pass., side carpet. It is a 73 coupe with a/c, and I think it is coming from the upper dash/firewall area---------not really sure. This liquid is oil based, but seems to not stay oily on you hands. Is this a a/c compressor problem?
I have no clue as to it's origin, but I think I better find out quick.

    HELP!

    thanks

      Gregg,

I agree with Chuck. Good chance it's your heater core that is leaking antifreeze. It's not a fun fix! Been there, done that.

If you replace the heater core yourself, the expense is not that great for a new heater core. Summer is almost here, you could continue to enjoy driving your Corvette by just removing the heater hoses from the unit and put in a new heater core in the fall.
There is an aricle on the 70 Corvette Registry seb page about Juliet's 70 convertible getting the heater core replaced. I believe the Corvette shop that did the job is in your area if you don't want to do the removal and replacement. I have done a couple of them, not much to it really, just have to remove a lot of stuff with the factory air cars having more duct work. Just be patient and take your time. One reason this job is expensive is the amount of time it takes to do the removal and replacement.
Caution with the center instrument cluster, it is easy to break, another reason to do the job your yourself.

            Hi Greg,
I just did one on my 68 coupe and it was very easy. (3Hrs, s-f) The heater cores are available from any parts house and they're cheap. I would only echo Jim's comments that you should take your time and be very careful as you disconnect the instrument cluster. It's also a good oportunity to look at the area directly below the winshield for cracked sealant and rust trails. I found a terrific leak that way. Best of luck.
            Cheers
            Ed
