    C-264 coupe underdash insulation

I have a new under dash heat barrier insulation kit (2 piece) and cannot understand how it is applied! Has anyone done this task? The long piece seems to go over the windshield washer connection? I have the regular under dash insulation kit, but cannot seem to figure out the heat barrier part. Help!

Bob, do you mean the upper Dash sound deadener that goes above the firewall insulation? Email me and I can take some pictues to send you of the sound deadener I just installed. It wasn't to hard to do once I figured out how the piece folds and bends around the upper dash. I cut the longer of the two pieces in half to make it easier to manage and used 3M super adhesive to install. I applied adhesive to the pad only and held it in place till in was firmly attached. Now the lower firewall was a different story. What a pain to install. The holes didn't line up right and I had to trim and cut on it to make it fit and then getting the rubber plugs in was a real nightmare. You would think for $134, the piece would be made to fit better.

Yes, Mike, that is the culprit! Ant pictures you can send will be very helpfull! Also, what did it take to install the firewall insulation plugs? I have heard about some other "horror" stories relating to installation. So any other helpful hints from you or others will be greatly appreciated.

The rubber plugs are easier to install if you use an old round-shank screwdriver with the end ground off and rounded, dip the plugs in 50-50 dishwashing liquid and water first, and have a helper with duckbill pliers on the engine side that can pull on the end of the plug while you push from the inside (that's how the plant did it).

            Bob,
Take a look in the archives, there is a great post about installing the firewall insulation. You make a loop of string, loop it around the rubber plug and push it through the hole Then having someone pull on the string while light pressure is applied to the plug from the inside makes short order of installation. This is a great plan, I used it with success and think you will too. I will try to find it again and send you better information if you can't find it.
