I am restoring my 1959 Low H.P. Fuelie. Would someone please tell me the "correct" way to rout the oil line from the engine to the gauge? Specifically, the size, location, size, and direction of spiral bend in the line and how to get the proper ends back on it. Thank you! John # 21388

Re: C1 Oil Line routing
John,
If you find a source for 3/32" line material, please let us know as well. I have been searching for a correct sized line for my 60 for about 2 years. I think that the only source would be used original, but even those are almost imposible to find. Another little detail is the finish of the line. The JG calls for the line to be copper plated steel like the midyears, but the original was TBW steel with no hint of copper color. If you buy a repro line you might as well get what the JG calls for even if it is not the original look.
If I ever find a NOS or original line, then it will be worth it to battle over this item, but as long as it is repro, why fight it!

Re: C1 Oil Line routing
John A...
To route a new oil line from the engine, thru the firewall and to the gauge, I drilled a hole (equal to the Dia. of the oil line) thru the jaws of some old pliers and used it to bend and route the line. Also a one inch dowel helped with curves out of the engine area. when running thru the firewall grommet, apply a little lub., for you will need to slide the line back & forth a little to make the connection to the gauge.- Top

Your first bend will away from the engine and straight towards the fire wall, allowing clearance for the ignition shield. I placed the spiral facing towards the back of the car facing rearward. this allowed the first curve to form as you uncoil the oil line. You should look at another vette to follow the oil line routing, for the AIM is not to clear.- Top
