1962 Heater Box

Two Questions really.
One- I have an assembly manual, but it doesn't always show how things are put together. Is there any other books I should have that will show a little more detail.? Which brings me to question two- I trying to put heater box back together, was all apart in pieces when I got the car. I got new studs, core mountings screws, gaskets, etc. The studs have retainers on them,do they just hold the studs to heater box? If not what is the order of assembly? I assume the thick gasket goes between door housing and metal plate, then plate to heater housing, is this correct? Thanks in advance people!

Terry I'll take a stab at this. Been some time since I have had one out. The stud's go threw the fiberglass heater box and those little retainer's hold them to the box. Then your gasket goes on the box, now put the metal plate on and then the lage gasket will fit against the fiberglass firewall of the car. Now put your lock washer's on and nut's. The bolts after tightened will extend about 3/4 to 1 in. that's the way they were. Now putting the fresh air box on the factory put alot of dum dum around where it mount's so when you sqrew it on with the sheet metal sqrew's that have 1/4 in socket head the dum dum would squeeze out and look meesy.Hope this help's. The only other books you might want to check out are Noland Adam's Corvette Restoration and Technical Guide-Vol. 1 and the 1962 Servicing Manual (ST-10) They have a lot of detail and photos. Available from the NCRS Store. Chuck
