    C-2 Temp gauge

    Hi

Can anybody tell me which posts the wire connector for the temp gauge goes on?
I can't seem to get my temp gauge to work. I have put 2 gauges in and niether have worked. If your looking at the back of the gauge there are 4 post. 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. which post does the power wire go on and which post does the green wire to the sender go on?
The reason I don't know is someone put in a aftermarket gauge and it did not require any power. so the connector was still there but nothing else i have picked up the tabs and insulators i need but i can't seem to get it to work.
What i have so far is (with the power wire on 3 o'clock and sender wire on 9 o'clock) 13 volts at the sender with the gauge in the circuit. I have (with power off) 750 ohms thru sender cold and 150 thru sender with car warmed but not hot i'd say 160 deg. i have 100 ohms of res thru gauge with wires disconnected. if i remove the sender from circuit and place wire to ground it still won't move the gauge (either of them).
Do I have the wires on the wrong post?
I ask questions before about this gauge problem and i want to thank everybody who helped with answers but i still haven't got it to work yet.
    any help would be appreaciated
    thanks
    mike

There are only two wires on the temp guage, pink and dark greeen. The plug and terminals are designed such as not to plug in but one way. That is true for all of the guages, so you dont get them switched about. You have something missing from the back of the guage. The pink is hot.

I understand that the terminals bolt on to the back to form a 90 deg. connector but they are individual tabs and could be put on in many ways to form the 90 deg. connection.
which means you could have the wires at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock or 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. and the hot wire still could be on any of those 4 post.
      I'm not missing any parts
I took these parts off a dash at bloomington about 4 years ago and i guess i should have marked them.
      Thanks

        Mike,

I just wired mine recently. I will look at it tonight and maybe I can help you a little further.

Also, it may be because I have a '63 but, the colors for a '63 are Dark Green for the sender and light green for the power. I am not sure where pink came from but maybe it is because I have a '63.

Thanks I sure would appreaciated if you could look.
the 65 power wire is black with a pink stripe
63 was green according to the 63 wiring diagram

          Thanks

            Re: C-2 Temp gauge

            Mike,

My '63 is setup as follows: Looking at the gauge from the back, at 9 o'clock, is the dark green wire. This goes to the sender unit. At 3 o'clock, is the light green wire. This goes to power. When the tabs are connect to the screws they are aligned at 90 degrees to each other. This is because the temperature connecter on the harness is a 90 degree connector.

I took resistance measurements of the gauge only. The measurements I got are: 76 ohms from the sender screw to the power screw; 187 ohms from the power screw to ground screw; and 263 ohms from the sender screw to the ground screws. The 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock screws are the ground screws. It is very important that the ground screws of the temperature unit are tied to the system ground.

I do have a very good troubleshooting article that I could mail to you.

            Good luck,

            Gary

              Gary

That is the exact way i had it hooked up and it would not work. Yesterday i went over to a friends house that has a 67 apart and he had the dash out but still assembled and the connectors were on 12 o'clock (power wire) and 6 o'clock (sender wire) and the post at 3 o'clock was the ground (it was the only post that had the nut and washer with no insulator , so it was in contact with the case) he said the gauge was working when he removed it.
i went home and installed mine in the same manner and it worked perfect.
is yours working in the 3 & 9 o'clock positions?
              anyway thanks for the info
              Mike
