    1965 Z01 Option

Could a 1965 be purchased with a day-night mirror only, or did you need to order the Z01 option to have the inside day/night mirror? If the option had been ordered, what would have been the configuration of wires at the rear lights?

    Thanks for any help!

    Ray-----

Option Z01 included the D31 day-nite rear view mirror and the T86 back-up lamps. Neither option could be ordered seperately; just as a complete "package" under RPO Z01.

I'm not usre what you mean by the configuration of the rear wiring. However, with the addition of the back-up lamps, the inner tail lights were deleted and the back-up lamps were added in their place. The wires going to the outer lamps remained the same as if the Z01 option were not installed. Two other wires, activated by the transmission-mounted switch which was also a part of the option equipment, were attached to the back-up lamps.

      Thanks! Joe

The reason I ask the question the way I did is that I am not sure what I have. The 65 roadsters that I am restoring came with the California option of: "six tail lights". There were two red and one clear on each side. The mirror is the day/night mirror and looks to be original; all the original interior components were in place at time of purchase. There is no switch on the 4-speed Muncie transmission and I have not located the wiring needed with-in the harness for the back up switch. I wanted to know if the wiring to the rear of the car would support the back up light option or if there was ever back-up lights on the car.

Again, Thanks for all your help,
I am getting close to completion!!

The connection for the back up switch wiring is included in the group of wires that go through the firewall to the wiper motor. The wire from the switch snakes up along the firewall into a wire clip on the lower firewall and then to the switch connection by the wiper motor.

Look for that wire clip that Mike mentioned that will indicate the initial build or not with back up lights. It is riveted to the fiberglass tunnel. Three speeds are on one side and 4 speeds (later build, like your car) are on the other side. Also, ring out your rear harness for backups...
