I'm trying to figure out the original color for my 80 vette. I know, take the gas tank off. But, there has to be an esier way. Also I have a collection of vette card which tells alot about vettes according to serial numbers. But, I'm missing the one I need, 1980. If anyone knows how to figure out original color, please let me know. Also if anyone has the serial number info for an 80 model, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: 80 paint
If you want to decode your VIN number you can go to this website for information:http://www.greatoldcars.com/corvette...01974-1980.htm
This should give you as much information as you can get from the VIN. Use Wayne's advice on the interior and exterior color code from the tag on the door post.- Top

Re: 80 paint
Thanks For all your help, everyone. I still have a problem though. My door plate does not have any info on paint, just tire, weight and vin number. Knew there had to be a reason I got the car so cheap even though it's an awesome car. If there is any other way, please let me know. If it helps, My interior is original and it's blue. Thanks.- Top

Re: 80 paint
Something is amiss here. The vin should be on the driver window post under the windshield. You will have to look under things, like inside the doors under trim etc that is not removed during normal paint operations.- Top

Re: 80 paint
I think you are looking at the back of the drivers door if you found the VIN. Look in front of the drivers door near the hinges and find a metal plate attached to the body with numbers on it . It may be painted over and if you find it post the numbers.Lyle

Re: 80 paint
292 should be your interior code meaning midnight blue leather. 28 indicates dark blue metallic exterior color. I24 should be the body build date, the 24th day of the I'th month (A=first month of production)or June 24th.- Top
