1967 interior clean up

My 67 has 95+ percent original interior. I lose very few originality points but a reasonable number of condition points when I go judging.

How can I go about cleaning up light rust (screws, hockey sticks, chrome parts), scratches (console and dash) without affecting originality?

I really just want to do a really good spring cleaning. All suggestions appreciated.

You're on the horns of a dilema here.... NCRS and NCCB (Bloomington) each have two classes for Corvette judging (restored cars and unrestored cars). With what you describe (exterior is 95% factory original), sounds like your car might qualify for the unrestored judging category. If so, the whole concept of condition vanishes and only originality aspects of the car remain. This would make the question(s) you pose (how to maintain/clean this/that) a non-issue.

But, if you want to have the car judged in the restored category (nothing says a given car can NOT compete both ways, but it's RARE for one to be in such good condition that it can do well both ways) then it's time to start thinking about removing this/that part and restoring surfaces....

Think this one through CAREFULLY because, at NCRS, a given Corvette can only attempt Star/Bowtie judging ONCE in its lifetime. If your car truly is a candidate for unrestored judging/appreciation, you can hurt its chances by tinkering to 'improve' appearance....

0000 steel wool works great for minor cleaning on metal surfaces and leaves no visible scratches.
