    C-3 Idler Arm on a 1968

Are any of you aware of an easy way to check if the front idler arm is bad on a C-3? I have the tie-rods off the spindles and if I push the idler arm I feel some play and a slight clunk. Last year the front end shook a little at lower speeds and seemed to go away at 55+.

Is this possibly a bad idler arm? The steering box was rebuilt last year so I doubt that is the problem. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    John-----

There should be absolutely no play in the idler arm, itself. So, if you are, indeed, feeling play in the idler arm and not something connected to the idler arm, then the idler arm is likely worn. Check yours for a number forged on the bottom of the arm shaft. If the number is 3779185, then the arm is likely original to the car, is 35 years old, and has as many miles on it as the car.
