Hi Guys,
I had a leak in the oil pan of my 68 327/300. original pan w/ that long baffle on the inside. the shop manual says the following, "if crankshaft was rotated while the pan was off, place timing mark at the 6:00 position". The crank was not rotated while the pan was off, so I didn't rotate to the 6:00 posistion. I noticed that while I was putting it back on, the oil pick up would hang up on the edge of the baffle. I thought I'd jiggled it past the baffle into the correct position and I sealed and re installed the pan. It socked up flush and bolted in with no problem. All fluids filled to proper level. When I started the car, an amazing, clunk clunk sound (very much like bad main bearing) comes from the engine. I don't want to run it like this, but has anyone ever had a similar problem with the pan. This rotating info has me wondering if I should have rotated the crank regardless of whether or not it had been moved. The oil is not thin from fuel overage, the engine was rebuilt about 700 miles before it was "barned" and it was driven after that with no problems. This is the only thing I've done other then replace spark plugs. I'm stumped.
But the interior is done, and it looks real purty.
Thanx
Ed
