I've just changed the oil and filter for the first time after an engine rebuild. Got about 300 miles on the car. It runs good and holds good oil pressure - about 60 pounds at revs and 45 at idle. I examined the oil visually and it appeared to contain fine metal particles in the bottom of the drain pan. It looks like the metal you'd see in metallic paint. I pulled a magnet through it and sure enough, there is a coating of fine metal on the magnet. I cut the filter apart and the paper element has the same fine particles, nothing big enough to call a chip of metal. I took the filter to the shop where I had the engine rebuilt (overbored, new pistons, crank turned, all new bearings and seals etc.). The technican was not alarmed, he says it's not uncommon to find metal in the first oil change and it will decrease with subsequent changes. He advises me to drive it and check again after the next oil change. Should I be worried? Is there something I should be doing in the meantime?
