    (1) Note/document original Chevy orange overspray pattern so you can duplicate upon re-assy.

    (2) Use traditional paint remover to get down to bear aluminum.

    (3) Use aluminum oxide remover (like Naval Gel's aluminum brand; in the BLUE can; hardware/auto parts store may have to order for you since this doesn't move as fast as the steel/rust version in the RED can).

    You're done!

      No engine paint on automatic transmission housings - they were part of the transmission assembly, which was installed at St. Louis; the housing is all as-cast natural aluminum.

        There is a yellow data plate attached (with a single rivet) to the right side of the case. I removed this prior to rebuild as the shop advised their case cleaner would likely strip the silk screening.
