    C2 AC fitting problem

I recently purchased from Long Island Corvette the compressor fitting and muffler assembly for my 66 small block. This is the aluminum fitting that bolts to the end of the compressor. When installed, the U shaped freon hose fitting on the end of the muffler angles up at a 45 deg angle causing hood closure issues. On my existing fitting this tube fitting runs nearly parallel to the muffler and compressor avoiding this issue. I contacted 3 other suppliers and same issue; they all apparently use the same vendor. Does any one know of a vendor that can furnish the correct fitting or can the aluminum tube be bent (about another 20 -30 degrees)without kinking?

Typical repo part!!! One would "think" they would use and original part for review/duplication in there engineering process. That rarely seems to be the case.

I just purchased the A/C tube for a 67 that goes through the radiator support to the dryer. JUST LIKE YOURS, NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ORIGINAL! I have 3 air cars and all three original tubes are EXACTLY the same. The repo IS TOTALLY WRONG!

I guess I'll just heliarc the original and return the repo to Volunteer vette.

i had a similar experience with C-60 fittings i got from long island suply about17 years ago when i restored my 64 365 hp c-60 and their fittings weren't close enough to orig. to close the hood.didn't try bending their repo as i feared, like you, that i would trash it. I think(senility is a terrible thing) i cut the tue off, reasngled it before mig welding it back on the block. still blows cold air after all these years.good luck, mike

Randy - Curious as to why you elected to replace the muffler assembly. Your post seemed to indicate it was the original one. You should be able to find someone to fix or rebuild it if there's a problem. As others have mentioned, reproduction AC stuff leaves a lot to be desired. Pete

Thanks for the input. thats my second problem; the condenser to freon hose thru the radiator support is about an inch off too. I've ordered the over the radiator support (early 66 are over, late 66 are through) so I'll see what comes closest.

thanks for your input, i was hopeing for some other vendor with the correct part but i guess it is off to the fab shop for modifications.

Wow, there must be something going around. I just ordered one from Long Island also and I was assured that it was 98% correct. It was delivered today and when I opened the box without even taking it out of the bag I could see that it wasn't even close, not even in the same ballpark. I will be sending this back with a little note. I guess if one was missing the whole thing it would be a suitable replacement, but after reading your posts, seems like there is still trouble and you can see that also with that redical bend in the one pipe. I have my original with a slight crack in the pipe just after the muffler. So I'm going to try to heli arc it. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Thanks Zack I was thinking I was picky. I would go the heli-arc route in your case. Mine had 2 damaged shradder valves and was the wrong year so I started over. Order the thru the radiator condensor to hose fitting for another exercise in "repo" madness.
