    C1 top strap snaps

Does anyone know of a source for correct appearing male snaps for the top straps on a C1? I am talking about the little snaps that mount on the rear bow that the top stowage straps loop back and snap on to. My originals are still usable but are pretty sad looking. I have searched high and low and can not find a male 3/8 stud with an 8/32 mounting post. Italked to Dale over at Al Knoch's today and he said that even though they make new straps with the female portion of the snap, he knew of no source for the correct style male snap. All leads would be appreciated.

    John,
I believe the sanp your after is a little different than my '56. Suggest you try a boat vender that sells boating canvas products. They generally have a variety of snap products. Regards,

          Thanks Dennis,
The snaps that come with the top tabs have a self-tapping stud because they are threaded into fiberglass. The ones I am looking for have a 10/32 machine screw thread stud attached. I went to a couple of canvas places today and only found ones with a 8/32 thread and they had a flange around the base. Finally found some correct looking ones in the Mcmaster Carr catalog. I had to order a box of 25 to get them but they look real correct except the screw head in the center is Phillips rather then slotted. I would imagine that no one makes them in slotted anymore! If anyone is need a couple, drop me a line as I will have about 23 extras!

Could you use the snaps, with out screws, sold at Home Depot and buy the machine screws separate?

              Gary,
That was my fall-back plan if I could not find any correct appearing ones, but the originals had no flange under the snap like all the generic ones do. This really stands out to a judge at flight judging. The ones from McMaster Carr came in today and they look pretty good, the threaded studs are brass and the heads are phillips but when they are snapped together the look correct!
