    1963 Seatbelts

    Folks,

Did an archive search and didn't see a specific answer to this question - so, I hope one of you midyear gurus have an answer for me! What size Allen and/or Hex wrench do I need to remove the seatbelts on my 1963 SWC? Rick #38392

    Folks,

Can't believe NO ONE on this forum has removed their seatbelts? What have folks used to remove the bolts? I know they are either Allen or Hex - HELP!

I believe it is a 5/16" hex. I will check when I get home.

Rick: its a 5/16 six sided Hex and Allan. pick up a crafstman or snap-on 5/16 allen socket(? terminology) that will take a 3/8 drive ratchet. If you use an allen wrench, you'll probably end up with abraded knuckles and a fastner that is rounded off on its inside. then you'll have to resort to a vice grip or the hot wrench to remove the fastner.Mike, old knuckle head and hand

Rick, you might want to spray some PB nut buster or some other lube on the bolt before trying to remove them. I had a difficult time removing the bolts on my car. When I reinstalled I ran a tap through first to clean up the threads.

Mike - but hot wrenches are so much fun to use, especially near fiberglass. Tim Allen would say ugh ugh ugh...more power!...Craig
