WHAT IS THE SECRET FOR REMOVING THE REARWARD MOUNT ON MIDYEAR SIDE EXHAUST? THE NUT AND BOLT ARE SPINNING TOGETHER AS ONE UNIT AND I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO REACH THE HEAD OF THE BOLT SO THAT I CAN GRIP IT AND STOP IT FROM TURNING. I WOULD HAVE TO HATE CUTTING THE BOLT/NUT, BUT I'M WONDERING IF THIS IS MY ONLY OPTION? THANKS, RON

Re: 67 SIDE EXHAUST
Hello Ron. I believe that these mounts are usually installed with a "carriage bolt". The domed end of the bolt fits through a keyway in the frame. It is then slid forward so that the "square" of the carriage bolt fits in the narrow slot of the keyway. If your keyway is slightly enlarged, or if the "square" on your carriage bolt is rusty and rounded off, you may have no option other than to cut the nut and/or bolt. These can be tough to get off. Replacement hardware is easy to find however. Hope this helps. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: 67 SIDE EXHAUST
Ron,
Try soaking with your favorite penetrating oil for a day or so, then use a hand held propane torch to heat the nut good and hot then quickly spray WD-40 on the nut. I have had good success using this in the past. If this doesn't work, go to your parts store and buy a "nut cutter". They are fairly cheap (10.00?) and handy to have anyway. Be careful with the torch and good luck. Bill- Top

Re: 67 SIDE EXHAUST
Once I lubbed the rubber support/mounts, I got the exhaust pipe to slide foreward so I could access the bolt. My after market side exhaust had a 9/16 bolt head and I was able to access the head with a box wrench with a little pushing and shoving in the tight space. I was able to then heat things up enough just to the point of smelling burning rubber. Both sides came off like a charm. Thanks for the help. Ron- Top
