I need my "original" 5 blade fan clutch repaired/rebuilt. It's the only thing holding back completion of under the hood overhaul. I have been told Fred Oliva in FLA is one of the best, but can't find info on him or anyone else qualified to send clutch to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: '61 fan clutch rebuild
I have seen what a grenading fan blade/ fan clutch assembly does to a radiator and fan shroud and hood. Fred , i believe, removes the seal on the back side of the fan cluch shaft and inserts a viscous material then epoxy's the seal back in place. If your clutch fans have movement when you grab hold of the fan blade(engine off obviously) and force it fore and aft and note play, then i would not consider it a safe fan clutch. Last time i bought the service replacement fan clutch from chevy, they were about 80 bucks. It only takes several minutes to switch back to fred's beautifully restored fan clutch when its flight or duntov judging time. For highway useage or at P.V. time , its just a couple more minutes to replace fred's fan clutch with a much safer GM service replacement fan clutch. good luck, mike- Top

Re: '61 fan clutch rebuild
We had a road tour 67 on the trip to Bowling Green National in 2000 that can show/explain what a re-built fan clutch does to a radiator when it fails. Not a pretty sight. He got a free trip on into BG on a trailer. Like Mike say, use a new GM one for the road.- Top
