    Block casting date

What is the acceptable time frame between block casting date and engine assembly
date on a 1962 870 block ? Thanks in advance for the help.

Most, but not all, 870's that found their way into 62 to 65 vets, at the St. Louis plant, have a 2 day to 3 week interval although NCRS accepts a 6 month window. mike

Bob--If you check the RESTORER Vol. 26, No. 3, p. 28, there is data on a number of 62's and their original motors. I can give you more information if you need. We have seen them as early as assembled the same date as they were cast, and in the car 4 days later--and on the outer end, although the NCRS uses the 6 months as the standard, that would be extremely unusual. I don't believe I have one in my files more than 2 months earlier than the car was assembled.
      Hope that helps.

agree with mike e. in that i have seen 870' cast and machine assembly stamped on the same day but if i were going to restamp(Never done that personally and never looked at a pretty girl either), i'd pick a mach. ass. date a couple of days after the block was cast, being carefulk not to pick a Sunday date.mike

UAW employees, as well as those of you and us who sleep at the foot of the cross, will get overtime, paid in Ford emblems, when we are called to judgement day. regards, mike
