What are the correct washers for the 4 bolts that attach the 2 top radiator support brackets on a 69, and are the fasteners painted black? My car has standard lock washers but I bought a fastener kit from paragon that came with a saw-tooth type washer. Which is correct? Thanks.

External tooth lock washers were originally used for the 1969 radiator upper "U" brackets. These were zinc plated. The "U" brackets were used only for copper/brass radiators used for small block with with A/C and/or THM and all big blocks except L-88/ZL-1 (except THM).In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

No, not as far as I know. Also, keep in mind that these fastners were installed at St. Louis. The radiator support and the brackets were component-painted as delivered to the line. The only way that the fastners could have gotten painted would be if it had happened during engine compartment blackout. However, I don't think that the area of these fastners was painted. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 radiator support bracket fasteners *TL*
My experience in judging 1969s is that most have three external tooth washers on the copper radiator upper brackets. The upper passenger side bolt generally has a split lockwasher. YMMV I wish I could offer a logical explanation for this, but I have never heard one. Best I can figure is the UAW folks deliberately did it to confound us.
