I need help on my restoration...the problem is that the upper push rod on the clutch is at the end of its adjustment travel, instead of the middle portion. The pedal free travel is at 1 1/2" but the pedal is staggered compared to the power brake pedal. I have done a lot of work in this area and am convinced I have done something wrong help me identify what it is. I have replaced the upper portion of the clutch pedal lever, you know the part that wollows out, I double checked it for proper positioning and installation against known examples, I replaced the rubber stop and straightened it out, that part was bent and the rubber was crushed. I kept the original pushrod thru the firewall, the one with the steps on the end before the threads., I kept what I think is the original Z bar, no way to really know....It still had the red plastic plug in it. I found a NOS (p/n matched AIM) lower push rod with the two holes for the mounting of anti rattle springs. New arm and pivot, original bellhousing, new short throwout bearing and new centerforce clutch, resurfaced/balanced original flywheel. Why is the adjustement not in the center of the upper rod?

Re: C2 - 1964 - Clutch Need ideas
You're probably aware that the clutch linkage can be set to two mechanical leverage ratios, and if I recall correctly the pedal pushrod mounts to the inside of the cross shaft for one leverage ratio and outside with the other. I'm wondering if something is amiss with the way you assembled the linkage.
Details are in the '63 Shop Manual. Without looking at the AIM I'll assuming the sketches show the parts in the normal position and this should give about 6.5" of total pedal travel. With the fast mechanical ratio my recollection is that total pedal travel decreases to 5", so the pedal will be lower when the clutch is engaged.
I think the freeplay spec is about 1" with the standard ratio and 3/4" with the fast ratio, and freeplay will decrease as the clutch wears.

Re: C2 - 1964 - Clutch Need ideas
Thank you Duke and Mike for your responses, I have double checked everything that you guys covered and everything appears proper, I compared my car to another 64, I have found one difference, The bell crank position coming out of the bell housing is different, I can't remember if I used a new Ball stud for the bell crank? Are there different lengths? would that cause that problem? What length ball stud (in the bell housing) do I need?Dino Lanno- Top

Dino:
That is what I would have thought. Yes, there are different type ball studs (of different lengths), and the wrong one will naturally upset your linkage settings. I do not have the description/part no handy, but someone like Joe L, John H., Duke or Clem will probably be able to give that to you.

I believe '63 had some uniqueness in the clutch linkage - the lower pushrod and fork with the ball stud interface, so I don't think I can help out with '64 details.
