What would be the preferred grease for front wheel bearings? Most all greases have "wheel bearing" on the can... Some have MFG lables -ie GM or Ford etc.... Does the color tell anything about its application? Also, there is a part number on the can... is there a preferred PN for C3 application? What about the synthetics? Thanks...

Re: Grease question
John-----
Use one of these:
1) Valvoline SynPower Synthetic Grease Product #985 (tube)
2) GM #1051344 High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease ("tub" only)
I use the Valvoline grease for all wheel bearing applicationsIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Grease question
Joe, would the Valvoline synthetic also be OK to use in the steering box instead of the fluid?

Re: Grease question
Richard-----
If by the term "fluid" you are referring to a lubricant of some viscosity less than "140 wt" grease, no 63-82 Corvette ever used such a lubricant. I don't think that 53-62 did, either, but I'm not certain of that.
I think that the Valvoline #985 could be used for Corvette steering boxes, but I don't use it for that application. I use the Valvoline #985 for wheel bearings, front and rear. I use GM #12377985 for just about everything else. I would use it for the steering box, too, but it so happens that I have a "lifetime+ supply" of the original Corvette steering gear lube, GM #1052084, so I would likely use that for the steering gear if I needed to [none for sale]. I think that the 12377985 is just as good, or better, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
