Did anyone see the latest issue of Vette magazine "Living The American Dream" is the article. It shows a red 1965 Fuelie and it says "Gail & Kelly's vette is a correct, numbers matching "driver" in solid "Number 2" condition. If you look at the picture of the car it has a hood emblem on the left front of the hood. This is the second so called correct 1965 Vette I have seen with this emblem, but all the books I have that describe the details of this car indicate it should not have it. So which is correct? Thanks for the help (Beginning to get confused)!

1965 Corvettes did not have emblems on the hood of any kind. However, it would have been very easy for some owner to have added them. I don't think that Vette Magazine necessarily evaluates every nuance of detail before proclaiming a car "correct".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe,
I don't disagree with you, everything I have read also says the 65 did not have the hood emblem. I did notice however it is shown in the 65 AIM, maybe that is why Gail and Kelly's vette now has one.

Could you post the A.I.M. sheet number (the ones in the box to the left of the revision block, not the numbers some suppliers add to the bottom of the page) where you found the '66 hood emblem in the '65 A.I.M.? Thanks!- Top

Hi! John
I was curious about the front emblem. I was putting the finial touches on my 1965 and came across this page. Page# E77, front body panel, vent grill, UPC 1 ASM, sheet F1, date 6-3-65. I believe this should be in the 66 manual.

Re: "every nuance of detail".......Joe, you
I have an Assembly manual reprint from Mid-america dated in 1975(when I bought it). My page E67, F1, is the same picture as you describe. Then part number for the emblem was changed to 3872929 at a date I can't read from 3859?46. My feeling is this is for a 66 model year car that got put into 65 manual somehow, say late in the 65 production year. Still doesn't make it correct to have a 66 emblem on a 65 car is my feeling. However, I remember judging Terry Key's 65 conv years ago that had some 66 parts on it, grill and something else. Was a very late production car. Will have to ask Terry about it next time I see him.- Top

3859046 is the front header panel emblem (crossed flags) for '65. My '65 A.I.M. sheet 1-ASM, F1 (Chevrolet Engineering Graphic, not a Mid-America reprint with the top of the page cut off) has its last revision dated 8-7-64 (two weeks before start of '65 production), and doesn't show any sort of hood emblem - just the crossed flags emblem and the vent grille. Sounds like you have a '65 A.I.M. with a '66 page in it.- Top

John:
My '65 AIM shows the '66 hood emblem --baffling! I have 2 versions of the AIM: one is a very poorly reproduced copy(MidAmerica),which I bought from NCRS. The other is a much better copy (says "GM Graphic" instead of Mid America), which I purchased from Ecklers or C.C.

Re: "every nuance of detail".......Joe, you
John,
Hi, sorry for the delay, I have been under the car and not on the computer. My manual came from NCRS, the emblem in question is part # 3873776, on page F1 in section 1 ASM. It does look like a 66 emblem. My copy has a revision dated 6-3-65 showing the cross flags as part 3 3872929. I guess this could be a 66 page in a 65 manual. As another post says, hand written at the top of the page is E67, this is probably something done for copying the manuals.
Thanks,
George- Top
