    Horn Relay Ground

After 1 1/2 years of restoration, I finally started the 65 using the key. I labeled a short black double terminal wire as horn relay ground. Where does this wire terminate for ground?

    Thanks for all your help!!

    Re: Horn Relay Ground

The relay will actually ground on the radiator support on most applications, but there is a ground wire that attaches to the mounting screw. It grounds back to the voltage regulator and a harness ground.

      Thanks! Wayne

After posting on horn relay ground I found wiring information on relays in the 65 shop manual and AIM. The electrical drawing in the shop manual shows a 12 black wire from the ground on the alternator to the top fastener of the voltage regulator, but does not show the jumper from the regulator to the horn relay. In a subsection in the AIM manual the drawing shows the 14 black wire connecting to the horn relay and the jumper then going to the top fastener of the voltage regulator. Any idea of which would be the preferred method.

      Thanks for your help!

        Re: Horn Relay Ground

The voltage regulator grounds thru it's base, so in a '65 non-air car, the ground attachment at the horn relay grounds the rad support, horn relay and VR all with one wire. The A/C cars mount the VR on the inner fender, so the black wire in the harness goes to the VR nounting bolt to ground the VR

I just looked at one in the shop and it does have a jumper from the VR to the Relay. It is placed under the same screw that the capicitor on the regulator goes to and over to the base of the relay.

            Thanks for all the help!

The main ground wire went to the relay and the jumper went to the top of the Volatge regulator.

            Again, Thanks!!
