66 shock mount

I removed the rear shock mounts from my 66 coupe, and they, along with the rest of the suspension and drive train were painted high gloss black. I know the color is wrong for the other parts, but is the shock mount supposed to be painted at all?

John - this part should be zinc silver plate, not paint. Usually this is long gone in my experience....Craig

You can have them replated. However, be advised that these shafts are a high strength, critical item. If the shafts are re-plated with zinc, it will be necessary for the plater to employ special steps to avoid the weakening caused by hydrogen embrittlment.

As an altrenative, you could paint the parts with special paints sold by Eastwood and others or, even, low gloss aluminum paint.
