I have a low HP 1959 Fuelie with what I believe are off-road mufflers on it. I put them on years ago, when I was young and foolish because they sound great. Now I am old and foolish and looking to get the car judged for Top Flight and Bloomington Gold. I believe I got the mufflers as NOS way back and they have been on since. My questions are: Is there such a thing as an off-road muffler for the C1s? Was it an option for my car? If they were available, does anybody know the correct P/N for them so I can compare what I have? Thank you! John

Re: C1 Mufflers & exhaust
John-----
I don't think that there was an "off-road muffler" option, per se, for C1 Corvettes. I always thought, perhaps incorrectly, that the higher horsepower engines used the "off road" mufflers and the lower horsepower hydraulic lifter engines used the "low noise" mufflers. In any event, I think that the C1 "low noise" mufflers were oval shaped and the "high noise" were round.
I believe that the part numbers for the round muffler assemblies were GM #3813533, left side, and GM #3813534, right side.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C1 Mufflers & exhaust
All '56 and '57 Corvettes used the "round" mufflers; from that point on, all C1's used the "oval" mufflers as standard equipment. 1962 was the only subsequent year of the "off-road" muffler option, RPO 441, which used the "round" mufflers.- Top
