    C3 Severe Negative Front Camber

I have a 72 that has a problem with the front camber adjustment. With NO shims in place my tires sit with negative camber. And the only thing shimming will do is increase the negative camber. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. It almost seems as if my control arms are not the right length or the mounts for the upper control arm pivots are too close together. I know the car has had a slight hit along time ago. I have been fooling around with my frame/steering/body alignments for a couple weeks now and getting a little frustrated. Am I correct in assuming that with NO shims in place there should be a definite positive camber? Help Please!!

Yes you are correct. You should measure the distance between the mounting brackets for the upper control arms. This condition is common with a car that has been hit or has rust or severe frame cracking. Serious sagging of the front springs will also contribute.

Do you know what the distance between the upper control arm mounts is supposed to be? And the lower control arms as well? I took my car to a frame shop to get a little diamond out and the guy said he had to push my right lower control arm out a little which in turn made my negative camber even worse. I dont think my springs are weak because the body sits at the correct height, maybe even a little high because I don't have the interior and headlights in it yet. I'm going to go crazy messing with this.
      Thanks
      Scott

Scott - I no expert here, but I think he didn't do you a service by approaching it that way....at least is should have had a bar between the upper mounts to prevent them from tweaking inward, whcih they would do. There is a great covette frame shop out in CA somewhere that jigs your frame and makes every point to exact spec. But that requires transport of the bare frame etc, and clearly is not practical unless in the middle of a frame off resto. Best of luck on this...Craig

          Hi Craig,
Do you know the name if the frame shop in CA. I would like to get in touch with them to at least see what my options are. I have put my car back together to a point, but it can be disassembled relatively easy considering I just put it all back together. By the way, those sidepipe mufflers you sold me sound pretty good and the rearend rebuild info you sent me was very useful.

            Scott,
I do not know if this is the shop Craig was refering to, but suspect it is.

The measurement does not show up in any of my books, but the figure should be 26 1/4 as best as I can tell from a quick survey.
