1960 245 hp. spark plug selection

    Hi everyone,

I am about to go through my startup routine after an engine rebuild on my 1960 245 hp. and was wondering what brand and part number of plugs to use. I want to put in a dependable replacement - any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Jason U

For normal street driving I recommend the AC 45 for all SBs, however, AC not longer makes these non-resistor plugs. The closest you can buy is the resistor type AC R45.

NGK and Denso both make a non-resistor equivalent to the out-of-production AC 45, the NGK B4 and Denso W14-U, so I recommend either one of these.

The OEM recommended plug for most SBs from the fifites to sixties is the AC 44, but I always found them to be subject to fouling. AC heat range "5" was always more fouling resistant and seemed to be the best all around street plug.

The stock number for a box of ten B4 is 3210; 6008 for the W14-U. I'm not sure of the quantity, but I believe it's also ten.

      Duke,

Thanks for the response. I think I will try the AC plugs.

      Thanks again,
      Jason

If you want to use ACs the R45 is the best choice, or you could use the R45S, which has an extended tip. Both are resistor types. You engine originally had non-resistor spark plugs.
