The rear spring on my 67 coupe (390/427) sags from age and I'd like to replace it with an original part. Does G.M. still service the part ? If not where do I go to get the right part or do I re-arch the original ?

Re: 67 REAR SPRING

The original spring for your car was GM #3850839. This spring was discontinued many years ago. GM still catalogs a replacement for it, GM #354130. This spring is a 7 leaf, heavy duty-type spring of completely different configuration. It will, however, satisfactorily SERVICE your application and it is a very high quality part. Unfortunately, it comes with a price to match; current GM list is $477.
There is much discussion in the archives regarding rear springs posted by myself and others. However, the short of it is, that, in my opinion, the best "reproduction" on the market is the Eaton Detroit Spring offering and this unit leaves a LOT to be desired. It will adequately SERVICE your application, though, and, with a LOT of additional work on your part, can be made to appear CLOSE to the original spring's configuration.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND re-arching. If your spring ACTUALLY sags, you'll have to replace it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 REAR SPRING
Another option if your spring is not too bad is just to buy a main leaf and rebuild the spring with the mew main leaf. Sag is sometimes a combination of factors, including the deterioration of the rubber bushings and such and replacement of these can help as much as 1/2 to 3/4 inch of sag.- Top
