Distributor - Condensor ??? C3

1976 Coupe L48, located on the top of the block between the distributor and carb is a small condensor looking unit with two wires ( one coming out of each end ). One end receives a wire from the firewall the other connects to the tach connection on the distributor. Unfortunately, one of these wires has broken off right where it enters the condensor. I can not find any literature on this in my books. I believe it may be no more than a noise suppressor for the radio??? Any help identifing this would be greatly appreciated.

Does your tachometer function? The unit that you are referring to is the tachometer filter which is necessary for proper tachometer operation in 75+ Corvettes with electronic tachs (53-74 Corvettes used mechanical tachometers).

You will need to try to repair yours. This part, originally GM #348784 and last available under GM #14020025, has been discontinued for quite awhile and is difficult to locate. It's not reproduced, as far as I know.

No, the tachometer does not work. The needle remains around 1500 and never moves. With a little work I may be able to solder the wire back on. Regardless, thanks for your reponse Joe.
